Diving into an Unusual Steam Demo: Controlling a Poop on a Quest to Arrive at the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and enthusiasts have found a variety of engaging independent titles. However, one catches the eye for its unconventional concept. Named Unko Technica, this old-school styled platformer lets you play a hero that is actually a piece of poop striving to make its way to a commode. In case you're wondering, "Unko" means "poop."
The gameplay is easy to grasp: you only need a single jump button. Throughout 150 challenges, battle boss fights and unlock a market to acquire customizations for your poop character.
Execute your actions with caution, as a wrong move means beginning again. Bounce off air pockets to propel the poop upward, cross disappearing ledges, and interact with triggers to reveal new areas. Gather currency and use them on more difficult levels where gameplay gets crazy.
Graphically, the experience shows off eye-catching environments and an amazing music score. The simple graphics featuring shifting geometric shapes evokes memories of gamers of beloved games like Earthbound.
Even though hard to name other games where you play as a piece of feces, gaming have long featured scatological themes. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, you can craft explosives from character excrement. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use manure as soil enrichment. Unsurprisingly, this theme shows up extensively in the adventure The Stick of Truth.
Despite its humorous idea, Unko Technica has already garnered significant awards, like winning at Bandai Namco's GYAAR Studio in 2023. The demo is accessible at present on Steam, with the complete version scheduled to launch on PC this November.
