Analysts Identify Kremlin Fear Strategy Against Tomahawk Employment

Russian authorities is implementing a psychological influence initiative of threats to discourage the US from delivering Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukrainian forces, based on analysis from military analysts. A high-ranking official remarked: “We understand these missiles thoroughly, their flight patterns, how to shoot them down, we encountered them in Middle East operations, so there is nothing new. Only those who supply them and the deploying forces will face consequences … We will develop strategies to damage those who cause us trouble.”

Ukrainian Military Push Progress

Ukraine's military were inflicting heavy losses in a strategic push in eastern Ukraine, the central battlefield, Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on midweek. Zelenskyy's assessment, derived from a briefing from his senior military officer, contradicted Vladimir Putin's speech before senior Russian officers a prior day in which he said the invading army possessed the military advantage in every combat zone.

In an assessment covering October's first week, conflict monitors said Russia was incurring heavy casualty rates, particularly from Ukrainian drone attacks, in return for minor territorial gains. Ukrainian forces, Ukraine's leader reported, were “protecting our positions along all other directions”, highlighting especially northeastern Kupiansk, a largely destroyed city in the northeastern front under sustained offensive operations for several months.

Local Conditions

Local authorities in Ukraine's southern region of southern Kherson said offensive operations on midweek caused three deaths in and around the city of the oblast center. The governor of Sumy region, on the border area with neighboring Russia, said three individuals were killed in unmanned aerial strikes in various areas. Ukraine's air force said it neutralized or disrupted 154 out of 183 offensive unmanned aircraft during the night.

An offensive strike significantly harmed a Ukrainian energy facility, government sources stated on Wednesday. Facility personnel were harmed during the strike, based on information from energy company officials. They provided no further information, including the facility's position, but national sources said strikes hit power facilities in Ukraine's northern Chernihiv, southern Ukraine and the Dnipropetrovsk area.

Humanitarian Impact

In the border community of the Shostka area, significantly damaged by the military campaign against the electrical grid, local government has put up tents where people can find shelter, access hot drinks, maintain communication capability and obtain emotional assistance, as reported by local official.

Diplomatic Response

Ukraine's ambassador to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization on midweek urged NATO members to increase acquisitions of American military equipment for Kyiv. “It's not that we prioritize United States armaments rather than European or some other European weapons – the reality is that we require the United States for weapons which EU members don't possess,” said the diplomatic representative.

Federal law enforcement will soon be allowed to neutralize unmanned aerial vehicles, security chief said on midweek, following multiple unmanned aircraft incidents suspected as foreign operations to gather intelligence and deter. Presenting proposed legislation, the minister said law enforcement would receive permission “to implement state-of-the-art technical action against drone threats, such as EMP technology, electronic interference, navigation system disruption, but also with physical means”.

European Security Challenges

European leader stated on midweek that the European Union should enhance its protective capabilities to deter complex threat operations after air incursions, computer network operations and damage to undersea cables. “This doesn't represent isolated incidents. They constitute a systematic and intensifying operation,” the leader said in a address before the European parliament. “Several occurrences are coincidence, but three, five, ten – that represents a intentional and focused ambiguous warfare operation against EU nations, and the EU needs to react.”

Refugee Conditions

The Switzerland's administration has extended its temporary shelter offered to Ukrainian refugees to at least 4 March 2027. Temporary protection, which permits refugees to travel abroad as well as be employed in Switzerland, is typically restricted to a single year but can be continued. “The decision reflects the continued dangerous conditions and persistent Russian attacks across large parts of Ukraine,” said a federal announcement. “Regardless of global diplomatic initiatives, a permanent peace that would allow for safe return is not anticipated in the medium term.”
